Irrigation installation edicts can be incredibly cumbersome.
The lawn irrigation guide put out by the government of Lakeville, MN is 4 pages long, with 11 separate requirements. One of those requirements states: “RPs, SVBs, and PVBs [backflow prevention device] must be tested by an ASE Series 5000 certified backflow assembly tester at time of installation, repair, relocation, and annually. All test reports must be submitted to the City of Lakeville.” But this language isn’t unique to Lakeville’s ordinances. In fact, in 2016 a new Minnesota State Plumbing Code was crafted. Property owners statewide are now required to have all backflow prevention devices tested annually. (Code 603.4.2)

Of course, while some of the legalities are the same across Minnesota, other law details can vary from city to city.
